My Thoughts / Review:

I am going to start with a few cosmetic things I liked about this book.  I love the cover, although it’s a bit deceiving.  I didn’t think I was reading the right book because the description and cover didn’t match.  It’s beautiful though.  I absolutely loved the chapter headings.  That may seem like something silly, but I thought they were beautiful. 

I have to say that this book captured me from the very beginning.  I honestly couldn’t put this book down.  I really like Livia, and Adam.  They are both such great characters.  I feel for Livia from the very beginning.  She has to go to a new school, a new town and has to basically start all over.  I really like how the author gave her such a good friend right off the bat.  I like that she made the transition from moving to a new town less painful for Livia.  I think her judgments are too quick sometimes, but I am sure that comes with the abilities she has been given.

Adam at the beginning is one of those characters that you love to hate, but it doesn’t take long for him to redeem himself.  Adams best friend Kyle is also another favorite character of mine.  I really like how the author gives the MC’s such a great group of friends.  Too many times in book the friends end up stabbing each other in the back, and this book made me happy with the friendships and bonds that were made.

This is an exciting book.  It’s intense.  It’s emotional.  There is a point in the book that Livia is talking to her parents, and I couldn’t help but get teary.  I might be a little emotional :), but the way it was written made me cry. 

The end of this book gets so intense, that I found myself clenching my teeth a lot.  The author does a great job with the bad guys in this book as well.  There are a few things that happen that I expected or could see coming, but there were also a few that surprised me.  I love it when a book does that.

I am definitely looking forward to the next installment to this series.     I really like how this book is written, and enjoyed it from beginning to end.

My Thoughts / Review:

I still love Connor, Lev and Risa, yet each one of them takes a different direction in this book that leaves me really anticipating the next installment.  We are introduced to Cam as well, and I do have to say that his character is extremely interesting, a Frankenstein of sorts.   The whole thought about being "unwound" is so disturbing.  

There are "adds" in the book that really made me laugh.  The adds are why the people should want "unwinding" to continue and they are just plain funny.  They may not have planned them to make people laugh, but they did.  Every time one came up I just got a chuckle.

Lev really becomes one of my favorite characters in this book.  His life really stinks, and in this book I was hopeful that it would get better, but unfortunately he is faced with more trials and confronted with more death.  He always seems so distant, when talking to people.  Although everything he has been through it's very understandable.

Risa actually makes me really mad in this book!  I don't want to give anything away, but she ends up making some choices that made me want to scream.  I still love her, but she makes some really stupid choices in this book.  She doesn't have much of a choice, I just was surprised.

Connor I think just gets the raw end of the deal all the time.  He strives to serve the people of the unwind camp, and yet he still finds opposition amongst his peers.  It frustrates me that he is only trying to help, and others find a reason to cause rife in the group.   I am anxious to see what happens to the group now in the next installment!

I really loved this book.  I hate  to compare it to Hunger Games but I only do because the concept of unwinding is so disturbing.  A lot like fighting each other to the death.  It's one of those situations that I cannot tear myself away from.  This book if fantastic.  I loved it from the beginning to the end.  I am anxious to start the last book.  

If you haven't read this series you should add it to your list, it really is very interesting.  It's intense, exciting, and there's a love story to boot.  

My Rating:  5 out of 5 hearts!

Mythical Books – Interview

Having in view the course of events, the characters must evolve. They have real and palpable problems. How hard is to change them but keep the interest of young adults for the book?

I think that the only way to keep the interest of readers is to have the characters evolve. It was important to me that arbitrate have a very different feel and story than daynight. No one wants to read a rehashed plot. From day one, I knew that Kira would “break” post-daynight and that it would have a huge impact on everyone she cared about—that her choices would have long-impacting consequences. In arbitrate, Kira evolves from a relatively naive and idealistic teenager to a full-fledged adult. And Kira isn’t the only one who changes. All the characters change and evolve. It is one of my favorite things about arbitrate.

What Inspired you to write this book?
The series was inspired by a hike I took through the canyons of San Diego on a particularly hot day. I pondered how hot it would have to get before days and nights would have to be switched (sleep during the hot day hours and be productive during the night). From there, I thought about what kind of government would rule the ʺnight,ʺ and The Second Chance Institute was born.

For arbitrate, I did not want a rehashed plot of the first book. I knew how I wanted it to begin, end, and a pivotal scene in the middle. I loosely plotted it and then revised continually as I had better ideas.

My favorite scene is the last. I cried buckets over it. It is bittersweet and makes me run the full gamut of emotions from sorrow to hope; it has tender moments, irony, and defiance. A major character “grows a spine,” and it is glorious to see.

My Review / Thoughts

I took part in the excerpt tour and couldn't wait to get my hands on this book!  I was very thankful to receive a copy for review.  I honestly couldn't put this book down.  I am so new to the review world, so I hope that I don't give anything away.  I haven't quite figured out how to talk about the characters without giving away too much.

There was a time in the book where I thought that the MC was a little too naive for my liking, but then I realized that she was 18, first time away from home, first place of her own, first everything.  I still think the situation she decided to take part in was a little unrealistic, but it obviously didn't stop me from reading what was going to happen.

I like that toward the end of the book I found out something I wasn't expecting to find out.  I love it when a book does that for me! It was as if the book ended in the middle of a sentence.  The cliffhanger is going to drive me crazy until the next book comes out.  (In a good way!)  It makes me think.

I love the Mom in the book.  I am sure most probably would think she is too intrusive, but I think that is why I like her.  I have kids so I can relate to her feelings.

The whole idea of having dreams that may or may not come to life is terrifying to me, which is why I was so interested in what was going to happen.

There are characters in the book that I don't think are going to have a major role in the series, but I wish they would.  I hope to find out more about the MC's ex-boyfriend and more about her colleague at the gym.  I know they say "flashbacks" are bad, but I LOVE them, and hope that we get to find out more about the MC's background in the next book.  She is interesting, slightly annoying, naive and great!

I really enjoyed this book!  There may have been some elements that made me go "ya right", but over all I think it's a fantastic read!  I am really looking forward to the next installment!

When a movie leaves me with too many questions I tend to dream about them and make up my "own" endings.  I have a feeling the same thing is going to happen with this book.  I have too many "scenarios" going through my head; I won't be surprised if I dream about the book.  How appropriate!  Right?

I hope you have enjoyed the excerpts as much as I have, and I hope you will enjoy the book as well!  It is a good, clean book!

My Rating:  I am giving Dead Dreams 3 1/2 "hearts" only because the MC's naivete is a little much for me.
