MY REVIEW / THOUGHTS:

Okay, I have been wanting to read this series for a long time, and finally got the opportunity.  I devoted a whole month to only reading book on my TBR pile.  Unfortunately other things happened this month that have made it impossible to read.  Now, I am now on my third book (I think) and it has been so much fun.  I love reading my review books, but I really, really love reading my TBR pile :).

This book was so good.  I love reading about people with "powers".  I always think "what would I do with those powers".  I don't think I would like Juliette's power though.  I love to be able to hug my kids, and my husband.  Not being able to touch anyone would be horrible.  

Juliette has been locked away for 264 days with no contact with anyone until a random night when a boy ends up in her cell/room.  Adam.  What to say about Adam.  I loved him.  Loved him.  I didn't know if I would at the beginning, but as the book went on he grew on me.  

Juliette is taken to a man who wants to use her for her abilities.  Warner.  What do I have to say about Warner.  Well he is not my favorite person.  He is a wonderful bad guy though.    He is definitely one of those characters I love to hate.  He wants to use Juliette's power to defeat his enemies.

Adam and Juliette have different plans.  Really, the story is so great.  I love the world building, and characters.  I really felt like I was in the book with Juliette.  The way Juliette describes her world, made me feel the pain she was going through with her.  The writing is just beautiful.

I cannot wait to read the next book.  Although I am doing the novella because I am reading them in order (or order according to Goodreads.).  I really am so excited to find out if Juliette and Adam join the fight against Warner and his people.

MY REVIEW / THOUGHTS:

Oh my gosh.  Seriously I haven't been able to read for a while, and then the first two books I pick are so fantastic.  This book is also a mind trip.  Serious mind trip.

How did the author come up with this idea?  Okay, it says in the back of the book, but still.  This idea is so trippy.  

Could you imagine getting tapes from someone who had killed them self?  I have to admit I will never, ever, ever understand suicide.  I think it's a horribly selfish way to leave this earth.  BUT, this isn't about my personal feelings about that.  I also cannot imagine how hard a person's life would be with the responsibility of knowing their role in a person's suicide.

I don't quite know how to review this book.  Although the idea of the book is a little creepy, I couldn't stop reading.  Just like the characters in the book couldn't stop listening. I could not stop reading.  Could not.

Hannah was such a sad girl.  There are so many things that could have happened that could have changed her mind, but no one was willing to stand up.

I think every kid should read this book.  I want my girls to read this book.  I don't want them to ever make another person feel as though they are not important, and I don't want them to ever feel like they are not important.  It was heart breaking to hear Hannah talk about her life.  It was heartbreaking to hear Clay try to stop what had already happened.

There is never any reason any person should feel as though they do not belong.  I know that isn't the way the world works, but I hope that I have taught my kids that.  You never know how far a smile could go.  Maybe one day, that smile would be the one thing that could change a persons mind about taking a life altering decision.  

I have to admit the book was really good.  It made me think about how I respond to people in my own personal life.  I hope that I have let them know every day that I care for them.  Read this book and decide for yourself, but this book touched me.  I will never take another person for granted as long as I live.

I am looking forward to reading more from Asher.

Jay Asher was born in Arcadia, California on September 30, 1975. He grew up in a family that encouraged all of his interests, from playing the guitar to his writing. He attended Cuesta College right after graduating from high school. It was here where he wrote his first two children’s books for a class called Children’s Literature Appreciation. At this point in his life, he had decided he wanted to become an elementary school teacher. He then transferred to California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo where he left his senior year in order to pursue his career as a serious writer. Throughout his life he worked in various establishments, including as a salesman in a shoe store and in libraries and bookstores. Many of his work experiences had an impact on some aspect of his writing.

He has published only one book to date, Thirteen Reasons Why, which was published in October 2007. He is currently working on his second Young Adult novel, and has written several picture books and screenplays.Thirteen Reasons Why has won several awards and has received five stars from Teen Book Review. MY REVIEW / THOUGHTS:

Where do I start?  I finished this book last week and still don't know how to put in words what I feel about this book.  It was a total mind trip for me.  

When Jocelyn gets a letter from her brother with his code name "Jason December" her world starts to fall apart.  She is determined to figure out the clues in his letter so she can find her brother.  In her search she seeks out her brother Jack's childhood friend Noah and asks for his help.

Jocelyn, Jack and Noah grew up in a children's home called Seale House.  The woman there raising them was not the kindest person.  Some of the kids in the home had some real problems,  Weird thing were happening in the house, and Jocelyn was trying to keep kids safe.

While Noah and Jocelyn follow the clues to find Jack other things come to lite.  I cannot even start.  This is where the story gets interesting.  Okay, so it was interesting from the very beginning, but this is when it gets really interesting.

When the description says the book turns you on it's head, it is so so true.  I wanted to go back and read it all over again.  It was so fantastic. Fantastic.  I am still in awe.  I don't know how to even explain the mind trip.  It was FAN FREAKING TASTIC.  

It was such a great read.  I think you will be happy if you decide to pick it up.  If you do I want to know your reaction.  Seriously!

MY REVIEW / THOUGHTS:

I may be mocked in the book blogging world, but this is the first Stephen King book I have read. It got such great reviews I decided to try him. I wanted scary, and his movies have been so I assumed his book would be also.

I'm sad that this book didn't live up to my expectations.

Kings writing style is not my favorite. It took me too long to get "into" the book. The beginning was fantastic and I was like "What the Heck" and then it just fizzled :(.

I didn't really get into the book until half way through. I don't usually give a book that long, but the beginning grabbed me so I kept reading.

The story was interesting enough I guess. I just didn't get from this book what I wanted. King is suppose to be scary. This was not scary to me at all. A bit gross at times but only because of the creepy relationship between the psycho and his mother. Ewe!

Other than that it was just okay for me. I really wanted to love it, but just never connected to this book. The detective was a boring character. The killer was one messed up dude, but was boring as well. He didn't seem to have much to him.

I'm glad others enjoyed it, and I am glad I finally read a Stephen King book, but I probably won't be reading another.  Like I said it was interesting enough I finished, jut wasn't a great book for me.

Stephen Edwin King was born the second son of Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. After his father left them when Stephen was two, he and his older brother, David, were raised by his mother. Parts of his childhood were spent in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where his father's family was at the time, and in Stratford, Connecticut. When Stephen was eleven, his mother brought her children back to Durham, Maine, for good. Her parents, Guy and Nellie Pillsbury, had become incapacitated with old age, and Ruth King was persuaded by her sisters to take over the physical care of them. Other family members provided a small house in Durham and financial support. After Stephen's grandparents passed away, Mrs. King found work in the kitchens of Pineland, a nearby residential facility for the mentally challenged.

Stephen attended the grammar school in Durham and Lisbon Falls High School, graduating in 1966. From his sophomore year at the University of Maine at Orono, he wrote a weekly column for the school newspaper, THE MAINE CAMPUS. He was also active in student politics, serving as a member of the Student Senate. He came to support the anti-war movement on the Orono campus, arriving at his stance from a conservative view that the war in Vietnam was unconstitutional. He graduated in 1970, with a B.A. in English and qualified to teach on the high school level. A draft board examination immediately post-graduation found him 4-F on grounds of high blood pressure, limited vision, flat feet, and punctured eardrums.

He met Tabitha Spruce in the stacks of the Fogler Library at the University, where they both worked as students; they married in January of 1971. As Stephen was unable to find placement as a teacher immediately, the Kings lived on his earnings as a laborer at an industrial laundry, and her student loan and savings, with an occasional boost from a short story sale to men's magazines.

Stephen made his first professional short story sale ("The Glass Floor") to Startling Mystery Stories in 1967. Throughout the early years of his marriage, he continued to sell stories to men's magazines. Many were gathered into the Night Shift collection or appeared in other anthologies.

In the fall of 1971, Stephen began teaching English at Hampden Academy, the public high school in Hampden, Maine. Writing in the evenings and on the weekends, he continued to produce short stories and to work on novels.

Barefoot and as quiet as a passing cloud, she ventured down the lamp lit hall and found that she was on the same floor as the king’s chambers, obvious because of the amount of activity that was going on near the doorway. This was not the way she wanted to go. She spun around and started to head in the other direction, but instead found herself facing a warrior of Errigal. He didn’t scare her really, and her first reaction was to black his eye with her fist. In turn, that led to a half dozen more gathering round, and a struggle soon commenced…a loud one at that.

Hearing the commotion, Prince Ian stepped out of his father’s chambers, saw the clash, and ran down the hall. “What’s going on here?” he demanded, as he pulled the warriors away from Kellan. It alarmed him that she was out in the open. “My lady, what are you doing here?”

No one spoke, but he didn’t quite believe the princess was telling the truth again. “What happened to you?” he said finally, noticing the swollen eyed warrior. Kellan winced and bit her lower lip. Here it comes, she thought. Mentally, she began to calculate her chances at getting away, and the odds weren’t looking too good. The warrior was too prideful to admit a girl had connected a punch and just hung his head, mumbling something to make it sound like he had given a response.

“My lord,” called a nurse. “Your father is asking for you.”

Ian wheeled around to return to the room. Suddenly, he stopped short and went back. Grabbing Kellan by the hand, he took her with him. They entered the quiet, dark room with reverence. Kellan had never been near anyone deathly ill, and it made her very uncomfortable. The king was calling out Ian’s name, and the prince went to his bedside, still holding Kellan by the hand to her dismay.

“I’m here, Father,” said the prince. King Evert turned his head toward his son’s voice. Noticing someone standing beside him, he lifted his head up slightly, and his eyes grew wide. “Ian,” he said breathlessly, “where did you find her?”

The prince looked at Kellan. She stood very still and said nothing. The king’s eyes were locked on her, and he held out his hand to her. “Seanna?”

Ian started to jump in and explain, but Kellan squeezed his hand to stop him. Letting go of the prince, she slowly reached down to take the king by his hand and sat on his bedside, her apprehension melting away. She suddenly felt a deep compassion for him.
