My Review:
(This book is a Prequel to ROOK)I have to admit it's been a while since I have read Rook but when I was given the opportunity to review Pawns I was super excited! Rook was such a great book, I couldn't wait to see what the prequel would bring me.
I find myself feeling more sympathy towards Leslie in this book. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be abandoned by your parents with no thought at all. Thrown into a world that she thinks will keep her safer than being alone. I now understand why she is so determined to keep Chase close to her. To her he is her "protector", but the whole time I was screaming in my head "stay away from him I know who he really is".
I absolutely LOVE how this book connects with Rook. I love the emotion the author brought out in me while reading this book. Such a great back story for Leslie and it makes me care just a little bit more about her. I didn't like her at all in Rook, but when you find out a little more about her it's hard not to feel something for her.
Such a great read. I really enjoyed Rook so I knew that this would just be a great addition to the book.

In 2008, I cracked my head open when I was thrown from a horse and kicked in the head. I couldn’t read for three months, and had a headache for a year. At the end of that year, I was told whatever function I’d regained was all I was going to get – and it wasn’t much. I’d lost most of my short-term memory, and getting new information from short-term to long-term was nearly impossible. I was broken.
But I wasn’t willing to let my broken head be the only pieces left of my fractured life. I read about people recovering from the removal of half their brain. Studies show people with more than one language have increased cognitive ability over the rest of us, and this fact gave me some hope. I could not let this beat me before I even started to live, so I chose a language – Arabic – and forced my mind to function again. Through this language, I learned to love an entire people, and get my life back. ROOK was the realization of a dream I’d fought for the ability to resurrect.

ReplyDeleteThey are both great books!
ReplyDeleteI love prequels and short stories in a series. They give us a different look at characters we love =)
ReplyDeleteMe also! They are both such great books! I love them!
DeleteI haven't read Rook or seen this one. I'll have to add them to my tbr. Of course that means it will take a while to get to them, but still, it will help me remember. :) Fabulous review!!!
