AM I THE ONLY ONE????

AM I THE ONLY ONE....

Yes, I am inviting you to my uber geekdom again.  I know I should not do this because you my realize just how crazy I am and quit reading my blog..hehehe!  Although, I do have to admit, if you spent a few minutes inside my head you would jump off my crazy train really fast :).

I was reading a book the other day, and I had to giggle at myself.  I realized I was reading in a British Accent.  Umm.....really?  Yes, yes I was.

So, I am wondering if anyone else does that....Do you read something and really get into the character?  For example, if your character has a British accent do you read in a British accent?  Or if they are yelling, do you yell in your head?

Yes, I do these things,  I am just wondering if I am the only one :).

Welcome to my little world....heheheh

GRAND FINALE BLITZ FOR EARTHMAN JACK VS. THE SECRET ARMY

On tour with Prism Book Tours.

Tour Grand Finale for
Earthman Jack vs. The Secret Army
By Matthew Kadish

If you missed any of the fabulous guest posts, interviews, or excerpts for this tour, go back and check them out now!

Launch - Interview

Q: What is the Earthman Jack Space Saga?

My elevator pitch for the series is basically “Harry Potter meets Star Wars.” It’s about a fifteen year old kid from Ohio named Jack who one day suddenly finds himself at the epicenter of an intergalactic conflict between a benevolent Galactic Empire and an army of evil aliens called Deathlords. Jack is a bit of a slacker and an underachiever, but through the course of his adventure, he learns to be the hero the universe needs. Essentially, the Earthman Jack Space Saga is my love-letter to all the sci-fi I grew up geeking out over.

Coffee Books & Art - Excerpt

And though one would think Jack would be safe now that he’s entering into Princess Glorianna’s realm, nothing could be further from the truth. For new threats are lurking, just waiting to strike, and some of the threats cannot be fought as easily as a Deathlord Dark Soldier. (And let’s face it, those aren’t the easiest adversaries to begin with.)

Mythical Books - The Top 5 Ways To Deal With Harry Potter Withdrawal

It’s a bittersweet experience when one finishes reading a book series that is absolutely amazing. In a way, you’re glad, because you got to experience the entire story. But in another way, you’re sad, because now what the heck are you supposed to read? I know this was the case when I finished the Harry Potter series. But don’t worry, I made it through the withdrawal of Wogwarts and all the magical adventures of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and you can too! Here are the top 5 ways you can deal with Harry Potter withdrawal…

Teatime and Books - The Top 5 Ways You Know You’re A YA Fan

Let’s face it. Young Adult fiction can be like a drug. At first, you think its innocent enough. Then, the cravings begin. Soon, you’re mainlining at Barnes and Noble, tearing through the YA shelves like they’re going out of style. How do you know if you’ve taken your love of all things YA too far? Here are some of the most common signs that you’re a Young Adult superfan…

Colorimetry - 5 Things That Make A Sci-Fi Novel Worth Reading

Science Fiction is a lot like pizza. Even when it’s bad, it can still be enjoyable. But there are a few things which make some science fiction truly great. As a sci-fi author myself, these are the top 5 things I look for when reading science fiction and fantasy novels, which lets me know that what I’m reading is going to be great…

Letters from Annie (Douglass) Lima - 6 Star Trek Books All Sci-Fi Fans Should Read...

If you’re a Trekkie, then chances are you’ve picked up a Star Trek-themed book before. But the barrier to entry to some of these novels may be rather large if you aren’t a fan of the TV show. The good news is that some Star Trek novels are so good, they can appeal to any fan of sci-fi, even if they don’t like Star Trek! Here are the top 5 Star Trek books sci-fi fans should check out if they’re looking for a good read.

Katie's Clean Book Collection - Top 9 Heroes Of Sci-Fi & Fantasy Young Adult Fiction

I like my heroes in Young Adult fiction like I like my coffee – strong, sweet, and full of caffeine. (Okay, maybe not full of caffeine, but you get my drift.) And when it comes to science fiction and fantasy, the literary world has no shortage of great teenage heroes. Who are the best, you should ask? Well, you’re in luck, because I’m going to share with you the top 9 heroes of sci-fi and fantasy Young Adult fiction.

Christy's Cozy Corners - 5 Ways To Prepare For The Next Star Wars Movie

It’s no secret that new Star Wars movies are on the horizon, and fans are rabid about getting to see them. But waiting for them to hit theaters is enough to make even the Dalai Lama lose patience. So what’s a superfan to do in the meantime? Well, here are five things you can do right now to tide you over until the next Star Wars film hits the big screen.

Wishful Endings - Excerpt

Anna bit her lip nervously. Something she always did that was so cute, it practically made Jack’s heart melt. “I don’t know how to say this,” Anna said. “I’ve been trying to figure out a way to bring it up, but… it never seemed like the right time.”
“Hey, whatever it is, you can tell me,” said Jack. “No time like the present!”
Anna sighed. “Look, Jack…” she said. “You’re a great guy…”
Uh-oh, thought Jack, as alarm bells suddenly started ringing in his ears.

MichaelSciFan - Interview

Is there a message you want readers to get from the book, other than that Deathlords are evil jerks?

Well, obviously Deathlords being evil jerks is the primary message I want readers to walk away with. I think it’s important to illustrate just how big of jerks a race of aliens bent on killing everything is. Who cares about messages of personal responsibility, coming of age, friendship, loyalty, and the power of human belief and spirituality? Aliens are total jerks. Message, sent!

deal sharing aunt - Interview

4. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

That the unicorn is the national animal of Scotland. I just so happened to see a Facebook meme about it while creating my novel, and according to Wikipedia, it’s totally true. HUGE surprise.

His friends abandon him to pursue their own interests. Greedy and cunning politicians conspire to steal his spaceship. Even his relationship with Anna is strained now that she's gone from being "the girl next door" to the most powerful woman in the universe.

But beneath all that lies a new and terrifying threat from the Deathlords. A threat that grows in secret, slowly spreading throughout the Regalus Empire like a plague, and it threatens to destroy from within the only thing powerful enough to stop the Deathlords and their malicious rampage throughout the galaxy -the Empire itself.

Worst of all -Jack is the only one who knows about this new threat, and no one will believe his warnings.

Suddenly, the Empire is no longer safe for Jack and his friends. Even the people they've come to rely on the most can no longer be trusted. As those he's sworn to protect turn against him, how can Jack hope to save the day?

Fighting the Deathlords was one thing. Fighting the "good guys" is quite another. Will Jack be able to find the strength to be the hero the universe needs?

Or will he finally be defeated by this Secret Army?

REVIEW FOR - WHAT WE SAW - BY AARON HARTZLER

#9 REVIEW FOR READ-A-THON

20922826
pic and description taken from Goodreads

DESCRIPTION:

Kate Weston can piece together most of the bash at John Doone’s house: shots with Stacey Stallard, Ben Cody taking her keys and getting her home early—the feeling that maybe he’s becoming more than just the guy she’s known since they were kids.

But when a picture of Stacey passed out over Deacon Mills’s shoulder appears online the next morning, Kate suspects she doesn’t have all the details. When Stacey levels charges against four of Kate’s classmates, the whole town erupts into controversy. Facts that can’t be ignored begin to surface, and every answer Kate finds leads back to the same question: Where was Ben when a terrible crime was committed?

This story—inspired by real events—from debut novelist Aaron Hartzler takes an unflinching look at silence as a form of complicity. It’s a book about the high stakes of speaking up, and the razor thin line between guilt and innocence that so often gets blurred, one hundred and forty characters at a time.

REVIEW / THOUGHTS:

There are so many thoughts going through my head right now about this book.  I don't quite know how I feel about it yet.  I thought I would wait to review to see if I could put my thoughts together, but then I realized my thoughts are never together so it wouldn't matter :).

This story is so messed up.  I mean that in a "good" way...kind of.  See, I don't know how to put it.  The content was messed up...or the purpose of the behind the book is messed up.  What happens in the book is messed up.  Sick and twisted people.  The fact that it was based on real events is really what is messed up about the book.  It's heart breaking.

Kate and her friends go to a party at Doone's house, but Kate got so trashed that her life long friend Ben drove her home and put her in bed.  When  she wakes up she cannot even remember how she got home.  When her friend tells her that Ben took her home, she decides to go and thank him personally.

Ben and Kate are childhood friends, who grew apart as they got older.  While Kate is walking to Ben's house to thank him personally for taking care of her she realizes that she wants there to be more than just friends with Ben.  They spend an unforgettable day together and a little spark begins to flare.

Kate sees some pictures from the party with her and a "use to be" friend Stacey.  Kate didn't even remember Stacey being at the party and in the picture they were both drunk as skunks.  As Kate hears stories about the "epic" party she finds out that more happened at the party, than she thought.

Pictures pop up on friends pages, and stories are being spread about Stacey.  Kate is blown away by what she is hearing...when they return to school Stacey doesn't show up.  Everyone is making rude and disrespectful comments about Stacey, and Kate is saddened by what she is hearing.

While Ben and Kate are getting closer in the background Kate cannot let what happened at the party go, and has decided Stacey needs someone to stick up for her.  When she reaches out to Stacey, Stacey doesn't want anything to do with her.  Stacey thinks that Kate is part of what happened.

When some of the boys from the party are arrested, the whole town starts talking about what happened and everyone is on the side of the boys.  This is one of the reasons why I could never live in a small town.  Every one knows every thing about every one, and when you go against the grain you are an outcast.  Standing for whats right in this book means standing alone.  No one wants to be alone.

This story broke my heart.  It kind of blew my mind, but only because I cannot believe how things played out.  I don't know why people think it's okay to judge another person just because it doesn't go with what the "masses" think.  Where standing up for yourself can make you an outcast.  What kind of people do that?

This tore at my heart as a mother.  You will have to read to find out why.  It's probably every mothers night mare.  I could go on and on, but I cannot really without telling you the whole story :).

Even though the topic and what happens in this book is hard to read, it was such a good book.  I love reading about people who are willing to stand up for what is right even if it means being alone.

This book touches on a rough subject, but it is so well done in my opinion.  I loved Kate.  She has to learn some hard life lessons way too young, but through it all she stays true to who she is.

REVIEW FOR - MARY: UNLEASHED - BY HILLARY MONAHAN

#8 REVIEW FOR READ-A-THON

25479714
pic and description taken from Goodreads

DESCRIPTION:

Mary in the mirror.
Mary in the glass.
Mary in the water.

Mary lurks in the emptiness, in the darkness . . . in the reflection. That is, until Jess unleashes her into the world. Now Mary Worth is out and her haunting is deadlier than ever.

No one is safe.

Shauna, Kitty, and Jess must band together to unearth the truth about Mary's death to put her soul to rest for good. Their search leads them back to where it all began-to Solomon's Folly, a place as dangerous as the ghost who died there a century and a half ago. Quick sand, hidden traps and a phantom fog are the least of their worries. To stop Mary, they need to follow a dark string of clues and piece together a gruesome mystery that spans generations.

But time is running out.

As chilling facts come to light, Mary inches ever closer to her prey. Can Jess, Shauna, and Kitty break Mary's curse before it's too late? Or will history repeat itself until there is no one left to call her name . . . ?

MY REVIEW / THOUGHTS:

I LOVE this series.  LOVE.  IT.

In this installment we get to learn more about Mary, and why she is doing what she is doing.    The characters in this book are so fantastic.  Even the super creepy ones.  I cannot say too much because you should read this one for yourself so you can have a super scary experience...heheh  Some one else might read this and think "she was off her rocker it's not that scary"....well to me it was!

I love reading scary books, they just make me happy.  I know I have said that before, and I know people will think that is weird, but it does.  I love the thrill that comes from reading a scary book.

The thought of Bloody Mary in the mirror is scary, but having her outside of the mirror is a far scarier idea.  I love the connections that are brought to light in this book.  I love how we get to read more "letters" from the past.  I really like it when books connect the past with the present.

There is so much going on in this book.  Everyone is fighting for their life...no one is safe.  Mary is every where.  Reading this book kept me on my toes the whole time.  The author does a great job of making you feel like you need to investigate every noise that happens in the house at night, while not wanting to move for fear it may be  "something"...hehe

Jess is more annoying in this installment than she was in the first book.  She is selfish, and just plain stupid.  In the midst of a crisis she is not someone you want to have with you.  Shauna and Kitty on the other hand know how to stick together and fight.

Mary is just plain creepy.  CREEPY.  The author does a great job describing everything without getting to wordy.  I have to admit a few times while reading I was so engrossed in the book that my heart was beating fast, my hands started sweating, and any movement in my house made me jump.  It was FANTASTIC.

If you like thrillers this is a great series to read!!!

UPDATE #8 - TACKLE YOUR TBR READ-A-THON

Well, today there was way too much to do, so I didn't get hardy any reading done.  I am kind of bummed, but tomorrow will be better :).  I did enter the challenge for today.  It was a really fun one.

Today's challenge was to find a book with a the seasons in the title.  The challenge is here @ Jemima Pett's website.  I found some on my own book shelf that I have already read so it was even more fun.

My selections were:

Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
The Winter People by Rebekah L. Purdy
The Cradle will Fall by Mary Higgins Clark
Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes

I couldn't find one in my books that had Autumn in the name so I chose Fall instead...oh well :).

I got about half way through MARY:  Unleashed.  Seriously, this series is awesome.  I hope to finish it tonight.  Yes, night....everyone is already in bed, and it's dark in my house, and I am still going to read it.  Makes it even more exciting right?  That's what I am telling myself...hehehehe

Happy Reading :)

#7 BOOK REVIEW FOR READ-A-THON

MARY: The Summoning (Bloody Mary, #1)
pic and description taken from Goodreads

DESCRIPTION:

There is a right way and a wrong way to summon her.

Jess had done the research. Success requires precision: a dark room, a mirror, a candle, salt, and four teenage girls. Each of them--Jess, Shauna, Kitty, and Anna--must link hands, follow the rules . . . and never let go.

A thrilling fear spins around the room the first time Jess calls her name: "Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary. BLOODY MARY." A ripple of terror follows when a shadowy silhouette emerges through the fog, a specter trapped behind the mirror.

Once is not enough, though--at least not for Jess. Mary is called again. And again. But when their summoning circle is broken, Bloody Mary slips through the glass with a taste for revenge on her lips. As the girls struggle to escape Mary's wrath, loyalties are questioned, friendships are torn apart, and lives are forever altered.

A haunting trail of clues leads Shauna on a desperate search to uncover the legacy of Mary Worth. What she finds will change everything, but will it be enough to stop Mary--and Jess--before it's too late?

MY REVIEW / THOUGHTS:

HOLY CRAP..........I mean, HOLY CRAP.....this is so freaking scary.  Yes.  Scary.  Climbing out of the book, gnawing at your dreams, and knocking on your brain scary.  Well, for me anyway.  I should not have started reading this book at night.  SHOULD NOT!  Too late now.  hehe.

I LOVE scary books, and scary movies.  They just make me happy.  I don't know why, but they do.  The get my adrenaline pumping, and are so much fun to read.  Who needs drugs when you have books and movies?  Sheesh.

I don't know of any one who didn't at one time play "Bloody Mary" at a slumber party during their years growing up.  If you didn't you are better than me. :)  I did and of course like most kids and just got freaked out at the pure thought of doing this.  Maybe that should have been a clue not to do it in the first place...hehehe  Kids will be kids...hehehehe

Well, this story brings Bloody Mary to a whole new level.  I really liked this book.  I liked all of the new aspects of this story.  There is that annoying girl / friend who thinks that they know all and can actually summon Mary.

Jess convinces some of her friends to join her in her summoning.  Their whole world changes after that fateful night.  Mary does come.  Mary does haunt.  Mary does kill.

While all these things happen you cannot help but turn the pages, to find out just how they are going to happen.  While reading, you keep telling yourself "stop reading, it's too creepy" but do you stop?  No...of course not.  It's to fantastic.  Ya, that was me!

I don't really want to tell you much I want you to go out and read it for yourself.  If you like scary books, this is just the book for you.   Be prepared though.  It is by far the creepiest book I have read to date.  I loved every minute of it.  I cannot wait to see where the other books take us :)
