DESCRIPTION:
In this latest Mac Faraday Mystery from best-selling mystery author Lauren Carr, readers will embark on a rollercoaster adventure with old friends (including the Lovers in Crime team of Prosecutor Joshua Thornton and Homicide Detective Cameron Gates), but also meet new ones as Mac Faraday’s daughter Jessica Faraday and Joshua Thornton’s son Murphy Thornton join the team in the race to get the love birds to the altar!
With three days left to the year, Deep Creek Lake is hopping with holiday vacationers and wedding guests pouring into the Spencer Inn for Mac Faraday and Archie Monday’s huge wedding ceremony which is being touted as the social event of the year.
But droopy flowers and guests who failed to RSVP are the least of Mac’s and Archie’s problems when a professional hit squad hits Spencer Manor to send the groom, Joshua Thornton, Archie’s mother, and Gnarly running for their lives.
With time running out to the big day, Mac Faraday and Spencer’s small police force have to sort through the clues to figure out not only who has been targeted for assassination, but also who is determined to stop everything … FOREVER!
MY REVIEW / THOUGHTS:
When I signed up for this review, I didn't realize that this was book 9 in a series. Never fret though, I didn't feel lost or anything during this book. In my opinion these can be read as stand alone novels. I do think I am going to have to go back and read more about Mac Faraday though.
Lets me start off by saying that I could not put this book down. There are a lot of things I liked about this book, so lets start with that :).
The characters. The author had a description of the characters at the beginning of the book that I could reference if I forgot who they were. It came in handy for me a few times, because there are a lot of characters. Which I loved.
I will just mention a few. Mac Faraday...A retired detective, turned millionaire is probably one of my favorites. I love his whit and the way his brain works.
Murphy Thornton - Naval Academy graduate. Do I even need to say more? No. Yum, Yum, and more Yum. Strong, handsome, and brilliant. hmmm...
Jessica Faraday - I didn't think I was going to like her. A poor girl thrown into high society when her dad inherits millions. She takes the role on way too well. She seems like such a princess. Then we get to know her.
Let's get real - all of the characters were my favorite. Seriously. Each one played such vital role, and watching them connect and come together was a page turning adventure.
*** MAY BE A SPOILER ***
I really liked ALMOST everything about this book. It has one hitch. Just one. I know for some it wouldn't even be a hitch, but it is one of my pet peeves as a reader. Insta love. Oh, say it isn't so. Yes, yes it is. I loathe insta love. I am all for "connection" at first sight, but love at first sight. No...just no. So here I am reading, soooo excited, turning, and turning and then I'm rolling my eyes thinking "ya, like that would happen". This totally would have been a 5 star but I just couldn't do it for those few little parts that insta love comes in. If you don't mind insta love, then will be an even more fabulous read for you!!!!
NOW, having said that, don't let it stop you from reading it. Just be aware :). It's such a great book, with great characters, and so much excitement. I am so looking forward to reading more from Carr!
Source: I was given this book as part of a tour in return for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way for this review. These are my own PERSONAL thoughts on the book.
