THE BETTER MAN BY AMY VASTINE - BOOK TOUR GRAND FINALE

A Themed Tour through Prism Book Tours.

We're blitzing the GRAND FINALE for
The Better Man by Amy Vastine!

The Better Man, which is the beginning of the new Chicago Sisters Series, is set in the busy city of Chicago, but is full of family, friendship, and love. It's also from the clean romance Heartwarming line of books from Harlequin.

Did you miss any of the tour? You still have time to go back and check out all the stops and enter the amazing giveaway!

Launch - Intro and Excerpt
The Better Man is the first book in the Chicago Sisters Series, which introduces us to the three Everhart sisters, Lucy, Kendall, and Emma. All three sisters live in the Lincoln Park area, and even though the story has a big city backdrop, the focus is still on family and community. These sisters always have one another’s backs, even though they couldn’t be any different...

Colorimetry - Guest Post
In The Better Man, the heroine of the story is an interior designer. This profession was born out of my love of all things HGTV, of course. I think I can lose whole days to that channel. I love all the shows about surprise makeovers and house flippings, but my favorite is Property Brothers...

The Written Adventure - Guest Post
Kendall Montgomery is the middle sister and the heroine of The Better Man. Her sisters are always there for her, even if they drive her a little crazy sometimes.... Despite their different views on life, Lucy and Emma never fail to support their sister through the toughest times of her life...

Kendall is facing reality now. She's a very talented and gifted designer and artist and is now able to use those abilities to make a living. Based off of her life experiences and relationships, she's a little gun-shy, with good reason. I loved watching her evolve. Being a mother isn't easy and doing what's best for your kids isn't always easy, either, but, as Kendall learns, the hard things are often the most rewarding.

Today I thought I would introduce you to Max, the hero. In my mind, Max always looked like and had similar personality traits as the character Ryan Gosling played in the movie Crazy, Stupid, Love. Easy on the eyes, charisma and charm, and let’s not forget great fashion sense. Max is always well put together and did I mention he often has a five o’clock shadow? I love a guy with a little scruff!..

This story is so sweet! I love the characters, and can't wait to read more books about Kendall's sisters. Amy has definitely become one of my new favorite authors!

The hero in The Better Man is new to Chicago. Max has recently moved there from Los Angeles. To help a guy out, I thought I would suggest a few romantic spots in the Windy City that he or anyone here for a visit might want to consider...

SBM Book Obsession - Excerpt
“Trevor’s been gone just over a year,” she said wearily. The anniversary of his death had led to Simon’s regression. It seemed every time Kendall thought they were making some good progress, something would set him back. She was not going to give her son another reason to worry. “Simon does not need to see me running around with men on dates. He needs me home. He needs to know I’m not ever going to leave him.”
His father had left. His father had left them both.

“Avoiding a date here and there isn’t going to make him better.”

Nana!” Simon burst into the foyer, his drawing clenched in his hand. You wont believe it! Youll never believe who we saw today!
Kendall gave her mother an apologetic grimace, but Nana was too startled by Simons verbosity to notice. Who? Who did you see?” she asked, crouching down to his level. He handed her the picture hed drawn.
My dad! We saw my dad right down the street!
Kelly P's Blog - Guest Post
In the story, a young widow and mother is hired to remodel a restaurant managed by a man who happens to look exactly like her dead husband. It’s a messy romance but one that I hope wins your hearts...

And the twist. Which I refuse to ruin for you. But let me just say, Amy. Well flipping done, my friend. Because you know I love stuff like this. And the way you wove this tale, and took me along for the ride, quite willingly, I might add . . . and revealed everything just the way it was supposed to be revealed, at the exact time it needed to be revealed . . . made me smile so big. I just love the way my heart was happy for (almost) everyone, in the end.

He mirrored her movement to keep her from escaping and put a hand on her arm when she tried once more to move around him. It was the first time he’d touched her since their disastrous introduction. Kendall couldn’t stop the déjà vu that it prompted. The last time she saw Trevor alive, she’d been storming away and he’d tried to stop her. The memory jolted through her like an electrical shock.
“I’m not going anywhere,” Max said firmly. “I will be here. Every day. Whether you want me here or not.”
The relationship between Max and Kendall grows slowly and as it does, we learn more back history about them both.  The unfolding process was well written.  Max and Kendall struggle separately and they struggle together.  Of course, my favorite bits are when they support each other.

Deal Sharing Aunt - Excerpt
The three of them got busy painting and embellishing the costume. Their collective laughter created a lightness Kendall hadn’t felt in a long time. Seeing Simon act like a normal six-year-old freed her from the year’s worth of guilt and worry she’d been carrying around. This wasn’t like having Trevor around. It was better.

There are a couple of things about the book that truly stand out as dynamic stylistic characteristics. For one thing, the author switched back and forth between the man’s and women’s perspective. Not all authors have the knack for doing that, but this author does. I also appreciate the fact that the author introduces a child who is grieving the death of his father in a unique way. I found that to be a realistic element that will connect with others who have been in that position.

Southern Chelle - Review
I love books like this that grip you and you don’t want to put them down! (This was a book that did that.) The Better Man seemed to have a different storyline than any other book that I have ever read. It was extremely refreshing to read totally new content.

First time ever reading from this author and was completely impressed. Her work is well written and easy to follow. This particular storyline is heart grabbing.

Bookworm Lisa - Review
I am enjoying this story.  Two separate people, each with a child with a need to be parented.

The hard obstacle to overcome is that Max look like Kendall's deceased  husband, It lends a unique situation to the story...

Reader Girls - Excerpt
Winner!” Max jumped her last checker and threw his hands up in the air, victorious. Im pretty sure you cheated,” Kendall mumbled.
Dont be a sore loser.
Im not, but I was killing you. Your massive comeback is fishy, admit it.
Maxs mouth dropped open. That is a lie. There was nothing fishy about my comeback. You opened up that side for my guy to get through!”
Are you going to give Max kisses because he won?” Simon asked, completely putting an end to their playful argument.

My Life, Loves and Passion - Review & Excerpt
“It’s better that you rip the Max Band-Aid off now rather than later,” Lucy said while they cooked. “Simon will get over it. So will you. It’s always better to be the one who walked away instead of the one left behind.”

“Which one were you again?” Kendall asked, recognizing that Lucy’s guard was down.

“Ha-ha. I’ve been both. At the same time,” she added. “Now, stop making this about me.”

I Am A Reader - Guest Post
At the heart of the story is Kendall and Simon, a mother and son who are both still grieving the loss of their husband/father. Kendall struggles with how to help ease her son’s anxiety after his father’s death. Feeling helpless is something to which all parents can relate. Kendall is sensitive to her son’s needs and has to find a way to balance what he wants with what he needs. It’s not always so easy to distinguish between the two...

Lola's Reviews - Review
I really enjoyed this story, it had some really sad and some really happy moments. The characters where what made this book shine, they all had a past, personality and motives, even the side characters. This book has a fun and quirky cast of characters and I enjoyed seeing them interact with each other.

Wishful Endings - Review
The Better Man was quite an original story and one I haven't read before in this genre. The leading man looks almost exactly like the heroine's dead husband and this causes all sort of issues because they have to work together. Sparks definitely fly, both good and bad, but the author kept a great balance between heavier issues (such as Kendall's son who has become mostly mute as a way to deal with his father's death), humor, and then those sweet romantic moments.

Rewind to You

One last summer before college on beautiful Tybee Island is supposed to help Sienna forget. But how can she? This is where her family spent every summer before everything changed, before the world as she knew it was ripped away. But the past isn’t easily left behind. Especially when Sienna keeps having episodes that take her back to the night she wants to forget. Even when she meets the mysterious Austin Dobbs, the guy with the intense blue eyes, athlete’s body, and weakness for pralines who scooped her out of trouble when she blacked out on River Street. When she’s with Austin, Sienna feels a whole new world opening up to her. Austin has secrets, and she has history. But caught between the past and the future, Sienna can still choose what happens now…

EXCERPT:

I close the door behind me, shutting out the muggy Georgia air and the acrid smell of fireworks. A chill sweeps over me, and I welcome it. I’m not scared anymore.
Another firework flashes, casting a red glow on the kitchen cabinets. I walk to the stairs, feeling my heart thud faster and faster, the palpitations Dr. Kovac told me about.
The ground shakes, sending a tremor up my legs. It takes me back to the Jeep, to the smile on my dad’s face as we zipped down the highway exactly one year ago tonight. That was the last of his smiles I ever saw.
I let myself think about it. Make myself think about it. Difficulty breathing, a cold sweat…I feel it all in full, doing nothing to prevent this seizure. As ridiculous as it is, I want to see Austin, the Austin I met under a sky of fireworks who made life feel right again.
I kneel beside my bed, burying my head in the down comforter as the aura of light fills my vision. At last, I feel that same spark I did on River Street when the light gives way and I see him.

About the Book:

If you find yourself talking to Jayne Dandy, keep the conversation on Star Wars and rubber ducks—best not to mention men, dating, or S-E-X. Because Jayne is fine with the way things are: writer of obituaries and garage sale ads by day, secret scribe of adventures in distant galaxies by night. But her crippling fear of intimacy has made her the butt of jokes since forever, and hiding behind her laptop isn’t going to get her lightsaber lit.

After her therapist recommends that she write erotica as a form of exposure therapy, Jayne joins forces with pen and paper to combat the demons that won’t let her kiss and tell. Unexpectedly downsized at work, she adopts a pseudonym and secretly self-publishes one of her naughty books to make ends meet. When her adorable, long-time friend Luke, co-owner of the popular Portland food truck Luke Piewalker’s, hears she’s been demoted, he insists on hiring her to sling éclairs and turnovers at his side. Her secret must be kept, but sparks ignite between them, sending Jayne and her X-Wing into a tailspin that will either make her face down her neuroses or trigger a meltdown of Death Star proportions.

My dad! We saw my dad right down the street!
Kendalls mother looked to her for confirmation. We saw someone who looked like him,Kendall explained. I know you want to believe it was Daddy, Simon, but we know hes in heaven, right?
Mom,Simon said, exasperated. You saw. It was Dad. I prayed he would come back and he did. You should have seen him, Nana. He was for real and he got in a cab by the park. I can show you.He took his grandmothers hand and tried to pull her out of the house.
Hold on,Kendall said, placing a hand on the door as he tried to pull it open. Why dont you go clean up your markers and let me talk to Nana a minute. Then you can take her to the park, okay?
Moooom,he whined.
Itll only take you a couple of minutes.
I dont wanna.
The whining was much easier to fight than the silence. Go.She pointed back at the family room.
Snatching his drawing back from his nana, Simon spun around and stomped all the way down the hall. He was lucky he was cute when he was mad.
I forgot to call you back and tell you I had to bring him home,Kendall said when the two women were alone.
Im so sorry.
What in the world is going on? Did he see this Trevor look-alike on the way to school? Is that what set him off?
Kendall sighed. They had a helper dad in the classroom today. Thats what set him off. We were walking home when we saw...Trevor.Saying his name brought back her own version of the yucks.
Maureen Everhart knew her daughter better than anyone. The look she gave her daughter as she pulled her back into the kitchen told Kendall she understood today had taken its toll. It wasnt Trevor.

Kendall leaned against the counter and wrapped her arms around herself, shaking her head. Her mom was right. It wasnt. Trevor was dead. He had left and now he was dead.

FINDING CINDERELLA BY COLLEEN HOOVER - REVIEW

18593175
pic and description taken from Goodreads

Description:

A chance encounter in the dark leads eighteen-year-old Daniel and the girl who stumbles across him to profess their love for each other. But this love comes with conditions: they agree it will only last one hour and it will only be make-believe.

When their hour is up and the girl rushes off like Cinderella, Daniel tries to convince himself that what happened between them only seemed perfect because they were pretending it was perfect. Moments like that with girls like her don’t happen outside of fairytales.

One year and one bad relationship later, his disbelief in insta-love is stripped away the day he meets Six: a girl with a strange name and an even stranger personality. Daniel soon realizes the way he pretended to feel about Cinderella and the way he really feels about Six may not be so different after all. Especially when the two loves of his life end up being one in the same.

Unfortunately for Daniel, finding Cinderella doesn’t guarantee their happily ever after…it only further threatens it.

My Review / Thoughts:

This one is hard for me to review, because I really, really don't like giving a book a bad review.  So I am going to start out with what I liked about this book.

The story itself was a good story.  There were some great friendships in this book as well.  Daniels family is absolutely hilarious, and embarrassing.  I loved it.  Six is a very insecure girl who has a lot to deal with.  Her struggle was interesting to learn about.

I am sorry to say that is about it.  The book starts out with an encounter in a dark closet between two strangers, who end up having sex.  Really?  I think this is labeled as a YA, but my Ipod showed children/teen.  Well, if that is the case there is no way on gods green earth I would allow my child or teen to read this book.  There is way to much talk about sex and the language was not my cup of tea.

Although the story was a good story, I could have done without all the language and talk about teenage sex.

***Having said these things - I honestly appreciate the Author's craft for writing.  I appreciate all the had work and time put into her book, so that people like me can read them.  I may not have liked the content and that is a big determining factor for me in books, her writing is beautiful.***

Source:  I bought this book for myself off iTunes.  I am not affiliated with iTunes in any way.  I was not compensated in any way for this review.  These are my own PERSONAL thoughts on the book.

Content:  Lots of language and lots of talk about sex, and actual sex.

A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES BY DEBORAH HARKNESS - REVIEW

8667848
pic and description taken from Goodreads

Description:

A richly inventive novel about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch, and the mysterious manuscript that draws them together.

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has stumbled upon a coveted treasure lost for centuries-and she is the only creature who can break its spell.

Debut novelist Deborah Harkness has crafted a mesmerizing and addictive read, equal parts history and magic, romance and suspense. Diana is a bold heroine who meets her equal in vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont, and gradually warms up to him as their alliance deepens into an intimacy that violates age-old taboos. This smart, sophisticated story harks back to the novels of Anne Rice, but it is as contemporary and sensual as the Twilight series-with an extra serving of historical realism.

My Review / Thoughts:

I have been dying to read this series.  I got the opportunity to listen to this book while traveling.  I did love it.  Diana is a witch and Matthew is a vampire.   They are not suppose to be drawn to each other, but regardless of this fact they are.

Diana opens up a can of worms when she takes a book of the shelves for her research that is a book that only a witch can open.  Diana didn't even know that the manuscript she opened once and couldn't retrieve again was Ash Mull 786.  A book that describes the origins of Witches, Vampires, and Demons.   Once she has opened it, she puts herself in danger without even knowing it.  Matthew starts to watch Diana and they begin to interact.  Of course that leads to a fabulous love story.

Matthew is determined to protect Diana when it's clear that other witches and demons are trying to get to her so she can give them the manuscript.  Then Diana and Matthew do the unthinkable.  They fall in love.  It is against the "Council" to be with another "species".

Matthew is use to having his way, and having women do what he says when he says it.  Diana on the other hand is not going to let him get a way with that.  I LOVE it.  Makes for some interesting dynamics.  hehe

Diana has a lot to learn about being a witch.  Matthew seems to think he knows how to help her.  They embark on a journey to get their hands on the manuscript. On the run from the "Council" they are challenged over and over.  This book is full of twists and turns, and is so much fun to read / listen to.

The characters in this book are fantastic.  There are so many secondary characters that are there for you to love as well.  Such a great book.  I hope the series continues to be as fabulous :).

This is a book about witches, vampires, and demons with a forbidden love story to boot.  It is such a fabulous combination :).

My life has been a series of left turns that nevertheless took me in the right direction (though it didn't always seem so at the time). I went to college to be a theater major and ended up studying the Renaissance. I went to grad school to become a college administrator and loved to teach so much I became a college professor instead. I thought I wanted to be a Tudor-Stuart historian, and found myself a historian of science. I started blogging because a friend needed help on a project in 2006 and am still blogging about wine today. I started writing a novel in the fall of 2008, and it became a New York Times Bestseller in February 2011: A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES. The second volume in the All Souls Trilogy, SHADOW OF NIGHT, came out in July 2012 and debuted at #1 on the NEW YORK TIMES Bestseller's List. What's next? The final volume of the trilogy, of course: THE BOOK OF LIFE, coming July 15 2014 to the US, UK, Canada, and Republic of Ireland.

HOW TO TAKE THE EX OUT OF EX-BOYFRIEND BY JANETTE RALLISON - REVIEW

613932
pic and discription taken from Goodreads

Description:

Sixteen-year-old Giovanna Petrizzo finds it hard enough to fit in. Three years since her family moved to Texas, she's still the newcomer compared to everyone around her. It doesn't help matters when her twin brother, Dante, takes on the mayor's son by running for class president. The least she could expect, though, would be for her boyfriend, Jesse, to support their cause. But Jesse's apparent defection triggers Giovanna's rash emotional side, and before she knows it, she's turned Jesse from the boy of her dreams to the ex-boyfriend she dreams of winning back.
In her trademark style, Janette Rallison delivers a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy that only leaves readers wanting more.

My Review / Thoughts:
I listened to this book, and I really enjoyed it.  It's hard to write the review because I listened to three other books as well...hehe!
Giovanna is dating Jesse and they seem to have a wonderful relationship.  Jesse's friends are rich and snobby, and are not really all that nice to people out side their circle.  When a kid from their high school passes away Giovanna's twin brother Dante wants to make a memorial for him.   The Student Body President thinks that money should be spent on prom floats.  Dante is disgusted with them so he decides to run against the president.
When Dante decides to run Giovanna supports him, and Jesse decides to support his best friend and current President.  In a heat of anger Giovanna breaks up with Jesse.
This was a fun story.  Giovanna was a little to emotional for me, but Jesse was fabulous.  Dante made me angry sometimes because he used Giovanna's knack for getting in trouble to get things from his step mom.  Giovanna feels betrayed and realizes that she wants Jesse back.
Giovanna is always getting herself into some kind of predicament.  Most of the time they are super funny.
This is such a fun book to listen to!  It is a good book about friends, forgiveness, and forgiveness.
Rallinson does such a great job writing that it pulls me in right off the bat.  It made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion :).  I enjoyed every minute of this book.
