My Review / Thoughts:
I enjoyed this book. I didn't love it but I enjoyed it. Bianca is determined to break a curse that has been in her family for ages and the only way to do it is to become Miss Mabel's assistant. Bianca enters a challenge and wins her way to be next to Miss Mabel.
I did NOT like Mabel! I knew I wouldn't like her from the first note she sent Bianca. It had that "way too sugary sweet to be true" feel to it. She is a wretched woman. A witch with power and she uses it for evil. Silly witch! Doesn't she know good always wins ;-).
Bianca goes through a lot in this book. I felt bad for her. I loves that she was stronger than anyone knew and she was determined to find a cure for her curse. She is racing against a clock because her Grandmother is already in ill health.
The book dragged for me a little in the middle, but it really got exciting towards the end! I couldn't put it down once I got to a certain part.
Although it isn't a book I loved I am certainly looking forward to the rest of the series! It cannot end the way it did :).
The writing was done very well and it as a very clean book, which is something I greatly appreciate!
If you like magic and mystery you will enjoy this book!
My Rating: 3.5 out of 5

About the Author:

My world revolves around my husband (who is a major hottie), my Vizsla’s, and the mountains.
I wear hiking boots instead of heels when I need to feel powerful, and on a bad day, I love a weightlifting workout. Actually, I love it on a good day.
I don’t eat bread because my thyroid doesn’t like it, although there are days I miss it. Especially ciabatta. Sweet potatoes are kind of my thing. Cookies too.
I write because I never stopped.
Miss Mabel's School for Girls is my first novel. More to follow.

There is nothing worse than being excited about a book and then disappointed. It sounds like you still managed to like this even if you didn't love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat honest review Becca! :)
I was a little disappointed but I am still anxious to see where the series goes :)
DeleteOOOH I have a HUGE thing for witches - I didn't realize Katie Cross had written a book about witches. It sucks you were a bit disappointed in this one.. I think I might give it a go, since you did like parts of it at least! Oh, I just looked into it and this isn't the same author - with a very similar name - that wrote the steampunk series! Kady Cross I think. I started out enjoying those books but the more I read, the more they become "meh" to me, so I haven't been inclined to pick the most recent ones up - especially when I have so many other good ones to read! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing this to our attention though! Hopefully (if it's a series) it'll get better as it goes along :D

I think it will get better! It got very exciting towards the end!
DeleteWell, now I've read your actual review I don't have to keep bugging you and saying, "So did you like it?" Sorry that it didn't live up to your expectations, but I'm glad you still enjoyed it. Awesome review!
ReplyDeleteI told you I liked it! I think the next one will be better because the ending was really good!
