FURY BY CHARLOTTE McCONAGHY - BLOG TOUR / REVIEW

FURY

Fury: Book 1 of The Cure by Charlotte McConaghy
348 pages, Published March 25th, 2014
by Momentum Books, Pan Macmillan

In the tradition of Divergent comes a novel about a world where negative emotions are stolen ... and only those with fury can stand up and fight.

Eighteen-year-old Josephine Luquet wakes naked and covered in blood that is not hers on the same day every year—when the blood moon is full. Josi has not responded to the "Cure"—an immunization against anger mandated by the government—and believes herself to be a threat to others.

Then she meets Luke. Luke has had the Cure but seems different to the other "drones"—and he's dead set on helping Josi discover the truth about herself before the next blood moon.

But time is running out. Is Luke willing to risk his life to be near her? Does he truly understand what violence she is capable of?

Raw and full of passion, Fury is a story of love in a dystopian world, and how much we are willing to forgive in the struggle to remember our humanity.

My Review / Thoughts

This was such an interesting book.  I started reading and thought "man it's taking me a long time to get through 93 pages"....then I realized that all of the novellas were included in this book.  So if you haven't read all three there might be some spoilers.  Maybe...If I can decide what to say about it :).

This book pulled me right in from the beginning.  The idea is kind of creepy.  A "cure" to take the anger, and emotions away from you.  Can you imagine living a life with no emotions whatsoever?  I cannot.  Probably because I am a very emotional person.

Josephine wakes up one day on a concrete slab some where covered in blood, tired and lethargic, with no memory of how she got there.  She meets Luke and their draw to each other is almost automatic.  So Josephine thinks.  There is much more to Luke than meets the eye.   Having said that, I loved Luke.  He is such a great character.

Josephine has never gotten "cured" and wants to keep it that way.  She also knows that one day a year, she turns into something that she cannot explain, and comes out of it with no memory of what she has done.  Little by little the memories come back to her through night terrors.  When she finally realizes that the night terrors are "real" she determines to end her life before her next "turn".

Then walks in Luke.  Like I said before I love him.  They become friends, and Luke is determined to help Josi figure out what is happening to her, and how to find a cure for her with out making her an emotionless drone like the rest of the world has become.

Luke has also never received the "cure" but he hides that fact from Josi.  Like I said there is more to Luke than meets the eye.  When I realize that he has known Josi for quite a while because he has been "assigned" to watch her and report her doings...He made me angry.  I did not want Luke to be the bad guy.

Josi, finds herself in an asylum with a Dr. that is trying to help her find out what has been happening to her.  She tells the Dr. about Luke but he doesn't believe Luke is real.  He has a rude awakening coming :).

This book was full of excitement.  It kept me on the edge of my chair at many points.  The story is so interesting, and complex.  The love story is awesome.  It sweet, and complicated.  I was rooting for Josi and Luke the whole time, and even though they seem to go through too much as a couple Luke proves himself to be a great man.

Content:  This book had a lot of language (in my opinion)  including the "f" word quite a few times.  There is one scene between Luke and Josi that was a little explicit for what I would want my teenagers to read.

Source:  I received this book as part of a tour in exchange for an honest review.  I was not compensated in any way for this review.  These are my own PERSONAL thoughts on the book.

My Rating:
3.5 out of 5
