Review of: SLAYERS by C.J. Hill

Picture and Description taken from GoodReads

Description:
Dragons exist. They’re ferocious. And they’re smart: Before they were killed off by slayer-knights, they rendered a select group of eggs dormant, so their offspring would survive. Only a handful of people know about this, let alone believe it – these “Slayers” are descended from the original knights, and are now a diverse group of teens that includes Tori, a smart but spoiled senator’s daughter who didn’t sign up to save the world.

The dragon eggs have fallen into the wrong hands. The Slayers must work together to stop the eggs from hatching. They will fight; they will fall in love. But will they survive?

My Review / Thoughts:

I am going to start off by saying I follow some pretty awesome blogs, and a lot of them I follow because of their reviews.  I read their reviews and it's like reading a short story inside a story.  They are wonderful.  Having said that, I have been given the gift of "gab" but not the gift of "writing".  I can talk about a book, but when I am writing about it, it never seems to come out the way I want it.  I hope that even though my reviews are not written eloquently my feelings of the book still come through.

I really liked so many things about this book.  I liked the setting, even though as a kid I hated girls (summer) camp, but the descriptions of the camp make it sound like so much fun.  Maybe if camp was a quest to fight dragons I would have liked it more :).

I love the characters in this book.  Tori, doesn't start out as one of my favorite people, but as the story moves on, she proves to be more than just a little princess.  Jesse also didn't start out as one of my favorite people, but that is probably because he just assumed that Tori couldn't handle herself.  Nothing is more irritating then when someone underestimates me so I think I sympathized with Tori ;).  Dirk, well lets just say he never became one of my favorite people in the book, but he was an excellent character.

I liked that the dragon idea was put in "today's" world and not set back in time.  I do love books like that as well, but this was just such a fun take on a dragon story.  How fun would it be to have dragons?  Although in my world I would prefer the kind that you can ride..and not the kind you have to fight :)!

When Tori finally comes to terms with who she is and what she has to do in this world she becomes someone I really like.  She would do anything for her friends, and even though some of them don't believe in her, she believes in the group as a whole.

I really enjoyed how each character had something "different" about them and how those differences played an important part of who they were as a Slayer.  They have to depend on each other because each individual has something to help the group in a dragon attack.

When Tori finally realizes that she can "hear" the dragon, life gets more interesting for the campers.  The Dragon Lord is out to destroy the slayers with the help of his "mole" in the camp and the dragons.

I was sitting in a Dr's office when I read who the mole was and made an audible "oh man"...a little embarrassing, but thankfully I don't care what people think...especially when engrossed in a great book :)!

The story has some sweet twists, and turns, and my mind is still trying to comprehend how this is all going to work out.  Thankfully there is another book to hopefully answer some of those questions.

If you want a good, exciting, fun, AND clean (probably my favorite part of this book) book to read, you should pick this one up.

It's such a great story of good vs. evil.  A story of friendship, love, loyalty and betrayal.  Such a great combination!
